School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is a school-wide framework for developing and explicitly teaching appropriate and positive behaviours. SWPBS comprises a broad range of systemic and individualised strategies for developing and improving student social and learning outcomes. The systematic strategies implemented will also prevent problematic behaviour from occurring among students in different environment settings.
The designed SWPBS practices and interventions are based on research and evidence, which have demonstrated to be effective when implemented. Introducing, modelling, and reinforcing positive school and social behaviour are important steps of a student’s educational experience. Teaching and understanding behavioural expectations and acknowledging students for applying and following them, is a more effective and positive approach than waiting for inappropriate behaviour or incidents to occur and then to respond to.
